InstantUV v1.2 Released

We are proud and happy to announce the general availability of InstantUV 1.2!

There have been a lot of improvements since v1.1.3, including:

  • Binary glTF 2.0 (.glb) export, for direct viewing of exported models on facebook, in Microsoft Mixed Reality tools, and on many other platforms
  • New HTML5 viewer with improved mobile and touch support
  • New UV atlas packing method, leading to much tighter packings
  • New unwrapping method “conformal” (potentially better quality than “fastConformal”, but slower)
  • New APIs for texture baking and image generation using the InstantUV C++ SDK
  • Baking from point clouds
  • Adjustable normal generation hard angle
  • Customizable prefix for texture filenames
  • Improved return codes for MOPS CLI
  • Bugfixes

InstantUV SDK / MOPS CLI v1.1.3 Released

We are pleased to provide a new maintenance version, v1.1.3, for MOPS CLI and the InstantUV SDK.

MOPS CLI 1.1.3 can simply be downloaded and installed as usual, and will, of course, work with all keyfiles valid for 1.x.

Changes compared to v1.1.2 are handling of material colors for untextured OBJ files, robust processing of custom normals, custom uniform UV coordinate scaling (InstantUV SDK only) and experimental support for displacement maps (MOPS CLI only).

We are pleased to provide a new maintenance version, v1.1.2, for MOPS CLI and the InstantUV SDK.

MOPS CLI 1.1.2 can simply be downloaded and installed as usual, and will, of course, work with all keyfiles valid for 1.x.

Changes compared to v1.1.1 are robust handling of topologically challenging input data, plus robust handling of degenerate input UVs during baking.

InstantUV SDK / MOPS CLI v1.1.1 Released

We are pleased to provide a new maintenance version, v1.1.1, for MOPS CLI and the InstantUV SDK.

MOPS CLI 1.1.1 can simply be downloaded and installed as usual, and will, of course, work with all keyfiles valid for 1.x.

Changes compared to v1.1.0 are:

  • Strongly improved baking, leading to significantly less visible texture seams
  • Possibility to segment into much larger, more coherent charts
  • Chart seams are much less “branchy” / complex
  • Strongly improved overlap removal, leading to a significantly smaller number of resulting charts
  • Parameter for max. number of triangles per chart exposed
  • MOPS CLI now accepts user-given segmentations when using “unwrap” standalone
  • BabylonJS viewer and glTF export now use the same texture orientation as OBJ output (images can be shared)
  • Issue that occurred when non-orientable meshes were fed into MOPS CLI got fixed
  • Issue with spiky mesh boundaries in decimated meshes, occurring for some cases when boundary preservation is enabled, got fixed
  • Issues occuring for some pixels during AO filtering got fixed
  • Slightly improved quality of results from decimation
  • Speedups for several parts of the pipeline

New Logo and Homepage

As you probably realized, our homepage just got a fresh new look!

Also, MOPS CLI finally got its own logo – we hope you like it šŸ™‚
Along with the preparations for the upcoming v1.1 release, we are currently still adding new content to this homepage, such as online forms for conveniently requesting evaluation keyfiles, Web demos, and enhanced documentation. Stay tuned!

v1.0 Announcement: Improved Segmentation

With upcoming version 1.0, the high-quality segmentation from v0.5 gets improved even further.

This important part of the instantUV pipeline serves as an input for instantUV’s cut-free, non-overlapping UV generation stage.
Enhancements within the release will include the possibility to freely configure how important a low number of segments is, balanced against minimum stretch and better packing efficiency. Nevertheless, the v1.0 defaults will already be quite useful for a very wide range of use cases, ensuring a low number of seams and minimum texture stretch.
